Sam has recently completed a 'Masters' in glass design and currently creates her work in a number of glass studios around the East and West Midlands.
The inspiration for Sam's work is found in the forms and textures of the natural world, such as ice caves, lava flow and the erosion of rock faces.
Molten glass for Sam is the optimum medium to explore the possibilities of
creating organic, sculptural forms, developed from these visual experiences.
The process of hot glass casting, allows Sam to manipulate forms, through the use of inserts,
producing a negative space or texture within the work that is viewed through the outer surface of the glass.
Sam's aim is 'to produce work that explores the relationship between interior and exterior forms,
creating an optical illusion that draws the viewer into the pieces, enticing the desire
to touch and investigate both the tactile surfaces of the pieces, and the textures encased within'.
